The world of Brioche Knitting is enticingly full of intricate looking texture, color-work, cables etc. Yet, it can be a bit intimidating while starting out and the terminology can look unfriendly. This class aims at introducing the foundational skills needed for 2-color brioche.

DESCRIPTION

This class focuses on 2-color brioche, knit flat. We will start the class by knitting a small swatch.

While we are at it, we will be learning

  1. Reading brioche patterns and getting familiar with brioche abbreviations and terminology.
  2. How to execute basic brioche stitches - Sl1yo, brk, brp.
  3. Reading your brioche knitting - To understand the anatomy of brioche fabric and stitches, understanding selvedge stitches, counting stitches and rows, knowing your place in the project.
  4. Fixing the most common brioche mistakes - Same row tinking, dropped yarnovers in previous rows.

SKILLS REQUIRED TO TAKE THIS CLASS

Knit, Purl, Slip, yarnover, k2tog, p2tog. Being able to read one’s knitting helps to a great extent.

    Instructor: Kavitha

    MATERIALS

Materials are not included in class.

    • Small quantities of DK or Sport yarn in 2 contrasting colors for swatching. (approx 25g each)

    • US 6 / 4mm 16" circular needles or US 4/3.5mm 16" circular needles

    • Stitch markers

    • Crochet hook 3.5 or 4 mm or a fix it tool.

    TIP FOR CHOOSING COLORS

Strong contrast between MC and CC is encouraged so you can easily read and understand your stitches. To make sure there is enough contrast, take a picture of your MC & CC skeins and convert it to grayscale. Your MC should appear much lighter than your CC in the picture.

Note: In the sample shown, on the right side, MC appears in the foreground, and CC forms the background for the brioche stitches. Here, light color is used as MC and dark color is used as CC.
