Have you played with brioche a little bit or taken our introductory brioche classes earlier and are looking to improve your skills? Did you know that a lot of beautiful brioche stitches are created just by varying the placement of increases and decreases? In this class, we can try our hands at knitting some brioche stitch patterns involving increases and decreases.


DESCRIPTION 

During the class we will focus on working swatches of 2-color brioche stitch patterns knit flat. While we are at it, we will be learning

  1. Reading your brioche knitting - To understand the anatomy of brioche fabric and stitches, understanding selvedge stitches, counting stitches and rows, knowing your place in the project. 

  2. How to execute brioche increase and decrease stitches - brkyobrk, brRsldec, brLsldec.

  3. Discussion: Tips for brioche knitting in general, using your practice swatch to measure gauge, continuing your swatch as a simple earwarmer or scarf if desired, 2-color italian cast-on.

  4. This class assumes some basic knowledge of 2-color brioche. Please note that reading brioche patterns and fixing common mistakes are covered in detail in our other classes.

SKILLS REQUIRED TO TAKE THIS CLASS

Knit, Purl, Slip, yarnover, k2tog, p2tog, knitting in the round. Being able to read one’s knitting helps to a great extent.

MATERIALS

Materials are not included in class.

  • Small quantities of DK or Sport yarn in 2 contrasting colors. (approx 25g each)

  • 1 skein of each color, if you wish to knit a scarf.

  • US 6 / 4mm 16" circular needles or US 4/3.5mm 16" circular needles

  • Stitch markers

  • Crochet hook 3.5 or 4 mm or a fix it tool.

Date: February, Friday 21st & 28th from 4:00-6:00pm

TIP FOR CHOOSING COLORS 

Strong contrast between MC and CC is encouraged so you can easily read and understand your stitches. To make sure there is enough contrast, take a picture of your MC & CC skeins and convert it to grayscale. Your MC should appear much lighter than your CC in the picture.


Note: In these swatches, on the right side, MC appears in the foreground, and CC forms the background for the brioche stitches. Here, light color is used as MC and dark color is used as CC.
